DESCRIPTION:“A Light So Dim” is malevolent melancholia mood music and the f
ifth full-length\nstudio album by German contemporary (black) metal band U
LTHA in their 12th year\nof playing together. Again\, to be released by th
eir long-time collaborator\nVENDETTA RECORDS\, it marks the next step in t
he evolution of the band’s\ntrademark sound\, moving even further away fro
m rather stagnant tropes of a scene\nstill very much enamored by ‘purity’
and ‘old values’.\nAfter finishing their trilogy of albums (Converging Sin
s\, 2016\; The Inextricable\nWandering\, 2018\; All That Has Never Been Tr
ue\, 2022)\, focusing on the journey\nthat is the downfall of a soul\, the
band took four years to craft this next\nchapter in their artistic journe
	y. Musically the goal for this new album was to\nwrite the most cinematic
and adventurous in the band’s catalogue. By stepping\naway even further fr
om classical black metal elements\, whilst deeper exploring\nthe other son
ic realms the band always had drawn influence from\, they redefined\nwhat
black metal can be for them: a living and breathing ecosystem of feeling\,
\nspirit and absolute creative freedom. There was barely any (traditional
black)\nmetal music that influenced the writing of this album. Instead\, t
	he band’s love\nfor movie soundtracks\, trip hop\, post punk\, dark “pop”
or country\, as well as\nproggy and weirdo outsider music\, sparked what e
nded up becoming their most\nambitious work to date.
